
Getting the Heat Right for Your Bread
Let’s talk about the struggle of keeping bread warm without ruining it. Most people just throw in a standard quartz heater and hope for the best, but that usually ends up with a crust that’s hard as a rock and an inside that’s still cold. That’s why we build our lamps with carbon fiber. Instead of just heating the air around the bread, these lamps send shortwave radiation straight through the crust and into the crumb. You get that perfect, oven-fresh warmth without drying out the outside. Speed is everything. We’ve dialed in the wattage and voltage so these things ramp up fast. Really fast. Because we use carbon fiber instead of the old-school tungsten filaments, the heat hits the bread almost instantly. You won’t be standing around waiting for your oven or holding cabinet to finally get up to temperature. Just a heads-up: since these pack a punch, make sure your wiring and controllers can handle the power draw. You don’t want to fry your system because you pushed it too hard. Built to actually last. The filament is tucked inside a quartz tube. This keeps the oxygen out so the filament doesn’t burn up, while letting all that heat pass through. One thing I love about these is how they handle the “on-off-on-off” cycle of a PID controller. Metal filaments tend to expand and contract until they eventually just snap. Carbon fiber is much tougher. It takes the stress of constant switching without breaking a sweat. Plus, we use standard end-cap connectors, so you can just swap them into your current setup and get back to work. A few tips for the floor. If you’ve ever dealt with “cold spots” in a massive industrial warmer, you know how frustrating that is. These lamps pretty much kill that problem. As long as the lamp can “see” the bread, it’s going to heat it. But be careful. The heat is intense. If the bread is too close to the tube, you’ll scorch the surface before you know it. You’ll want to play around with your conveyor speed or shelf height until it feels just right. And don’t forget to leave some room for ventilation—you don’t want the housing overheating just because there’s no place for the extra air to go.
