
Let’s Talk About the Half-White IR Carbon Fiber Lamp
Ever had a heating lamp that worked great for the product, but ended up baking the actual machine it was sitting in? It’s a common headache. That’s exactly why we built these “half-white” lamps. The secret is a specific ceramic coating on just one side of the quartz. Think of it like a thermal shield. It pushes the heat exactly where you want it—onto your workpiece—and keeps the housing from getting scorched.
Why Carbon Fiber?
We moved away from the old-school nichrome wire for a reason. Carbon fiber is just faster. It handles more current and ramps up to temperature in a blink. Plus, the infrared radiation it puts out has a shorter wavelength. In plain English? It digs deeper into your materials and dries or cures things way faster. If you’re still using old halogen tubes in your production line, this is a massive upgrade.
Controlling the Heat
That white coating isn’t just for show; it’s a mirror. It bounces the energy back toward your target, which stops the machine frame from soaking up all that heat. You can pick the length and wattage based on how fast your conveyor is moving. Just a heads-up: don’t go overboard with the wattage on a short tube. If you do, you’ll fry the connectors. To stop that from happening, we use reinforced terminals that can handle the constant expanding and contracting as the lamp cycles on and off.
Getting it Up and Running
These plug right into your existing PID controllers. But here’s a tip: carbon fiber reacts differently to temperature than metal does. You’ll probably want to tweak your tuning settings so the heat doesn’t overshoot your target. The heat density is incredible, but it comes with a catch. You’ve got to keep those reflectors clean. If dust builds up on the white coating, you’ll get hot spots, and your lamp will die a lot sooner than it should. Also, make sure your brackets have enough breathing room to stay cool.
